Education Bill Helps Students, Teachers

Education isn't about politics. But, over the past several weeks some opponents of an important piece of education legislation have utilized politics as a talking point in their widespread campaign of misinformation and fear tactics, designed to defeat this solid element of education policy.

Senate Bill 6 is good for students, good for teachers and good for Florida. With the passage of this legislation in the Senate on Wednesday we have heard more of the same from the opposition. Opponents to this legislation say the current system for teacher evaluation is fine.

Last year, 99.7 percent of teachers in the state earned a "satisfactory" evaluation, yet 50 percent of our high school students, 35 percent of our middle school students and 30 percent of our elementary students didn't make a year's worth of progress in reading. (And 60 percent, 40 percent and 30 percent, respectively, were not reading on grade level.) That's fine?

'Education a weapon against militancy'

Minister for Education, Mujtaba Shujja-ur-Rehman has said that education is effective weapon against militancy and extremism, therefore, Punjab government is attaching top priority to the uplift of education sector in the country. He expressed these views while addressing prize distribution ceremonies of Akbari Public School and Lahore Scholar House Shadbagh on Monday.

The principals of these schools also spoke on the occasion and submitted the performance reports of their respective schools. The Minister said that private sector is playing pivotal role for the promotion of quality education and government will extend full cooperation and facilitate private schools through Punjab Education foundation Scheme.

Is Further Education Important?

When people ask is further education important, often they have been put off by the high cost of going to college and getting a degree. It's no secret that the cost of getting further education has increased a lot in recent years, so it is no surprise that many students question whether they can afford it. In response, I always ask them can they afford NOT to go to college.

The reason is that college graduates on average earn double the amount of money in their lives than those with just a high school education. The return on investment dwarfs any other investment you could make on wall street. There are a huge number of financial aids available for anyone who wants to go to college.
