'Education a weapon against militancy'

Minister for Education, Mujtaba Shujja-ur-Rehman has said that education is effective weapon against militancy and extremism, therefore, Punjab government is attaching top priority to the uplift of education sector in the country. He expressed these views while addressing prize distribution ceremonies of Akbari Public School and Lahore Scholar House Shadbagh on Monday.

The principals of these schools also spoke on the occasion and submitted the performance reports of their respective schools. The Minister said that private sector is playing pivotal role for the promotion of quality education and government will extend full cooperation and facilitate private schools through Punjab Education foundation Scheme.

Commenting upon the performance of the govt and education sector the Minister said that foundation of a revolution in education sector has been laid through setting up of computer labs in 4286 schools of the province with the collaboration of international companies at a cost of Rs.5b. He said that the world has assumed the form of a global village and in this scenario the need for keeping abreast with the changing international trends has become very important. He said that more than 42 lakh students from Rahim Yar Khan to Attock will benefit from computer labs annually and will be able to play their role in national development and progress by benefiting from the latest knowledge.
