Obama Gets Bill Passed, Saves Education Jobs

Posted in : Education Planning

(added last year!)

President Barack Obama has been working vigorously to resurrect the education system in the United States of America back to its glory of previous generations. As the graduation rates and overall quality of education has dipped in the United States in recent history in comparison to other states in the world, President Obama made it his personal agenda to raise those rates.

On Tuesday, the United States House of Representatives passed the bill proposed by Obama, which would bring $26 billion dollars to the Education Department in order to save the jobs of teachers. The bill, which had already made its way through the United States Senate, passed by a vote of 247 to 161 in the House.

As state and district governments have been making budget cuts that have affected the education system, Obama saw it necessary to bring in a reform to help fund teacher salaries. The new measure is projected to save about 160,000 teacher positions throughout the United States.

The bill, which President Obama signed into law on Tuesday, will also bring about and keep in place jobs for nurses, firefighters, and officers of the law.

Members of the House of Representatives were not expected to be back in session until halfway through September after starting their summer recess in late July, but were called into session by Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi due to the bill getting passed in the Senate one week ago.

Obama was more than pleased with Pelosi’s urging. Obama said, “We can’t stand by and do nothing while pink slips are given to the men and women who educate our children,” and that the problems in our education system “should not be a Democratic problem or a Republican problem, it’s an American problem.”

While Republicans are criticizing the bill, calling it nothing more than a wasteful use of a money that will only further the debt and deficit of the United States, it is clear that President Barack Obama has the best interests of the citizens of the United States, both present and future, at heart in this matter.
